Capabilities

  • The evaluation platform demonstrates the switching ability of a VAR compensator
  • Can be configured to provide constant fixed VARs, (either capacitive or inductive).
  • Can also be configured as an external current sensor can be used to compensate for reactive current on a power line.
  • Note: the switching operation within each 500VAR device is non-programmable for cost and efficiency optimization

Applications


VAR Compensator

The Solantro  VAR Compensator Evaluation Platform provides a chipset-based solution for 500VAR continuously compensating the electrical grid for reactive loads. This device provides sub-second response to changes in the system voltage for quick and reliable control of the transmission line voltage.  

Using customized and dedicated integrated circuits, Solantro enables VAR compensator designs that meet the latest grid standards, with near zero PF (lowest loss), lowest cost, and best reliability. The chipset consists of an IXC that handle the grid interface functions, and APIs to interface with external communications for monitoring and control.
